As the 2025-2026 NFL season concluded with the performance of Super Bowl LX, Northern Valley Demarest students have much to say concerning the biggest game in American sports. The Seattle Seahawks dominated the New England Patriots in a 29-13 rout that many say was even more one-sided than the score represented.
Avid fan of the NFL, senior Chris Stamataky, reinforces this notion.
“It was pretty much a blowout. I don’t remember the exact score, but the Patriots had no shot. The Seahawks dominated them in every part of the game, and there were a few more plays that should’ve made the Seahawks win by even more but just didn’t work,” Stamataky said.
Leading up to the Super Bowl, some say that the end result was easily foreseeable and that the Patriots were clearly outmatched everywhere on the field.
“There was no way the Patriots were going to win, they were extremely overhyped and their team isn’t good at all,” Stamataky said.
A question many ask is how the New England Patriots, who lost by a significant and clear margin, even made it to the Super Bowl in the first place, the final round in what is usually a gauntlet of disgustingly difficult and brutal playoff matches.
Another senior and “expert” NFL watcher Ryan Pham contributes his thoughts on how the Patriots advanced as far as they did.
“I know that their schedule was really easy. During the regular season they only played horrible teams like the Jets and the Browns, and in the playoffs they played against the Chargers, who suck, the Texans, who had quarterback CJ Stroud who played really horribly, and the Broncos, and their starting QB got hurt and some bum came in and still almost won the game,” Pham said.
NVD students noted a few players instrumental in making the game such a Seattle-favored blowout.
“The Seahawk’s defense played great in general, there was that guy (Uchenna Nwosu) who had a pick-six on Drake Maye, there were also a bunch of sacks and forced turnovers from the Seahawks. Leonard Williams, Byron Murphy, and Devon Witherspoon were all really good defensive guys, ” Pham said.
Conversely, the Patriots had a few clear weak spots on their team during the game that underperformed and were major reasons why they lost in such a way.
“Their left tackle, Will Campbell, got killed the entire game. Patriots fans kept saying that he was really good but he got beaten a lot and gave up a lot of sacks,” Stamataky said.
Severely hyped coming into the game, quarterback Drake Maye threw two interceptions, lost a fumble, and took six sacks, coming nowhere close to the performance New England fans had hoped for.
“One word I’d use to describe his performance is bad. Sam Darnold (Seahawk quarterback) mogged (did much better than) him,” Pham said.
Overall, however, NVD students enjoyed watching the game, regardless of its mostly defensive nature.
“It was still a fun game to watch. I know a lot of people only like watching a ton of touchdowns and big offensive plays happen, but the defensive games are fun too. Also, no one likes the Patriots really so it was fun to watch them lose the Super Bowl,” Stamataky said.
The Super Bowl continues to be a fun and enjoyable annual event for many Americans to watch, surrounded by friends, family, and a lot of food.
“I mean, it’s the Super Bowl, so it was still fun to watch. I went to a friend’s house where he gave us food and drinks including Wingstop. Wingstop is my favorite,” Pham said.
