From polka dots to capri pants, some of fashion’s most unexpected patterns and styles are making comebacks in wardrobes. No matter where you go, you’ll see people dressed in styles from the 90s and 2000s with clothing you never thought would return.
What was once considered outdated is finding itself back in closets all around. The trend appearing in every direction is polka dot patterns. Popular in the early 1990s, polka dots have returned on a diverse selection of clothing items, ranging from shirts to bandanas. Back and better than ever, they’ve reclaimed the fashion market all over. They have reclaimed their glory since the 90’s and made their presence known with the surplus of patterns in clothing recently.
“I own so many different clothing items that have polka dots on them,” junior Meva Turegun said.
Capri pants have been rising in popularity recently as well, especially since the warm weather is coming back. Associated with yoga and casual chic, there has been a rise in the style, especially in teens who have jumped on the bandwagon along with the rest of social media. Celebrities and influencers have helped bring them back mainstream, such as Alix Earle and Hailey Bieber, and now they’ve resurfaced.
“I really like wearing capri pants, especially if I’m doing yoga or pilates,” junior Jazmine Mehrnia said. “I also think pairing them with flip flops is so chic,”

Flip flops have had a strong return after being replaced by sneakers and slides for years. Sometimes even paired with the infamous capris, they’ve resurfaced for a big range of people. Males have started wearing flip flops anywhere from the backyard to school, and they’re not afraid to embrace it. Mainstreaming again amongst teenage girls, flip flops have been a recent go-to pair of shoes many have been wearing. One of the biggest flip-flop brands resurfacing is Havaianas, coming back after being popular in the early 2000s. As more people embrace the resurfacing trend of flip flops, it’s becoming a new norm again.
“I wear my flip flops everywhere I go, they’re just so practical and comfy while also being cute,” junior Ella Panahi said. “It makes me feel like I’m in California instead of New Jersey.”
Some returning trends aren’t strictly clothing though. Hackey-sack has made a comeback like no other recently. Hackey-sack is a game with a tiny beanbag-type ball, usually played by a group of friends and was especially popular in the 1980s. No matter where you go, you will see a group of friends sacking a sack around and having the time of their lives doing it.
“Hackey-sack is a way of life,” junior Tanner Brickman said. “I play soccer, so it’s similar. Sack gets the whole community involved and everyone has a lot of fun.”
