As the new year begins, it’s a time to reflect on past habits and set new goals for self improvement. New years resolutions range from anything like improving academic performance, to developing athletic skills. Whether focusing on a more positive mindset, stronger study habits, or athletic success, students are using the start of the new year as motivation to start better paths for themselves. These resolutions show how students are committed to growth and personal success as they move into the new year.
Freshman Charlotte Besnoy shares one of her New Years resolutions she has started to work on.
“I want to start being more positive because I feel like sometimes I have a negative mindset. Doing this, I know it will get me [to] better places,” Besnoy said.
In addition to a positive mindset, it is important to look ahead, to succeed in bigger goals.
“My new year’s resolution is to get better grades so I can start to improve my GPA and get into a good college,” freshman Yzabella Perdomo said.
Not only is improving grades a great goal, but developing athletic skills is also important for many students. By setting athletic goals, students are able to challenge themselves by working towards both personal goals and team success.
“I want to work on and improve my soccer skills to achieve my goals of making varsity hopefully next year,” freshman Tom Tadmor said.
Tadmor shares how she is going to accomplish her personal growth through sports.
“I love playing soccer and want to show my skill on the varsity field so I plan on achieving my goal through private lessons and practice and training before the season happens,” Tadmor said.

With the goal of becoming more positive in mind, it’s clear how important staying motivated is for many students.
“This goal is important to me because it will help me do better in school and have a better path in front of me,” Besnoy said.
There are many different approaches to take when wanting to achieve this goal Perdomo set, of improving academics.
“It’s important to start strong so I can succeed in my life. Since I’m only a freshman, I want to start getting in the habit of studying for test days before, instead of the night before. This will help me improve my overall grades on tests and in the class,” Perdomo said.
When Besnoy is asked about what her approach will be to start her personal growth this year of becoming more positive, she shared her first steps.
“I want to start by complimenting others and journaling my positive thoughts. I think this will be a good step to start off strong,” Besnoy said.
Overall, Students are using the new years as a time to reflect and set meaningful goals for the future.
