As March 6 quickly approaches, prom is on every junior girl’s mind. Although it’s only January, dress shopping season is already underway. Everyone is searching for their dresses, and the junior prom dress Instagram account continues to grow by the day.
The Instagram account is important to students because once a dress is chosen, the student messages a photo of it to the account. This way, no one else wears the same dress. Although it was made to help students, some, such as NVD junior Michaella Ryu, feel like it adds more pressure to the dress shopping process.
“I think it is stressful because it makes me feel like I have to rush to find a dress before someone else posts it,” Ryu said.
Although some find it intimidating, many students say that it’s very useful to see what other people are wearing because it helps them in deciding what dress they want. Using the account, students can avoid buying dresses that have already been chosen. NVD junior Anjali Mathew thinks that having the Instagram account is stress relieving and takes away some of the pressure.
“I was really relieved when I posted my dress because it got rid of my stress, and I knew that no one would accidentally wear the same dress as me,” Mathew said.

Unlike senior prom’s long gowns, NVD’s junior prom is all about mini dresses, which adds excitement and pressure to the shopping process. Trending dresses sell out quickly, and since students must find a short dress, there are limited styles and colors to choose from; therefore, many juniors think it’s essential to start looking for dresses early.
“I think it’s better to start dress shopping early because I like to be able to take my time when deciding on a dress and not be stressed that someone will post it to the Instagram account or that it won’t ship in time,” Ryu said.
Dress shopping has become a more social experience rather than something that students do alone. It can be a chance to spend time with friends or family while preparing for the anticipated event.
“I liked going dress shopping with my family because it made me feel less influenced by what other people were wearing, and they helped me make my final decision,” Ryu said.
Even if the perfect dress isn’t found right away, looking for dresses together, taking pictures, and hearing opinions from friends and family can make the potentially stressful process fun.
“I haven’t found a dress yet, but I went to the mall to look for dresses with my friends, and it was really fun,” junior Ori Levi said.
Choosing the right dress can make prom finally feel real. Although it can be stressful to pick a dress, Levi shares her excitement for prom.
“I am excited for prom because now that I am actually looking for dresses, it is starting to feel real. It is in less than two months, which is pretty soon,” Levi said.
With a couple of weeks still left before prom night, juniors will continue to scroll through dress websites, check the NVD junior prom dress Instagram account, and share opinions with their friends. While it can be stressful at times, prom dress shopping is also filled with excitement, anticipation, and fun.
“Even though it can be stressful at times to try and find the perfect dress, in the end it’s going to be worth it,” Levi said.
