As the weather gets colder, finding the perfect winter coat is becoming a top priority for students at NVD. Students try to find a coat that balances looking good and staying warm. While it may seem easy to get both, it isn’t always that simple.
The North Face is a well-known and reliable brand that is popular among students for its high-quality winter clothing. Its reputation for being very durable and insulated makes it a popular choice. The North Face Hydrenalite Hooded Down Jacket is junior Ori Levi’s favorite.
“It keeps me warm and isn’t too puffy, so it’s super comfortable and flattering,” Levi said.
Another popular jacket is the Hollister Winter Coat, which is popular among people who are looking for something simple. It is a good basic that is easy to pair with everyday outfits, but junior Samantha Wertz reveals that it comes with some hidden flaws.
“It’s cute, but it makes me freeze, ” Wertz said.
Another favorite is the Chill Puffer Jacket from Garage, which is great for students who like oversized clothes. Because it is oversized, it is great for layering over hoodies and sweaters. It comes in black and dark green, which allows it to be paired with almost anything, making it a go-to option for many students.
“I like my Garage winter coat because it is really comfortable and warm. Also, it is good to wear over thick sweaters,” junior Brooke Marchisio said.

Another highly talked about coat is the Aritzia Super Puff. This coat has gone viral for its variety of styles; it comes in many different colors, lengths, and even warmth levels. Options for warmth range from ‘Warmish: 0°C/-32°F’ to ‘Extreme Warm: -40°C/-40°C,’ making it appealing to students who want something trending and versatile.
“I’ve heard of the Artizia [sic] Super Puff because it is really popular on social media for having so many different variations,” Marchisio said.

For those wanting something more unique, some alternatives are sherpa zip-ups, puffer vests, or simply layering heavy sweaters. Fleece zip-ups are particularly popular, even though they aren’t as functional as a winter coat.
Overall, choosing a winter coat is all about finding the right mix of personal style and functionality. Students at NVD want something that fits their style and can also handle the cold weather, and every brand offers a different balance of both.
“I think that style and functionality are equally important when it comes to choosing a winter jacket,” Levi said.
