An everyday debate that American teachers and students have to choose between is an orange and pink “D”or a green woman in the morning. The variety, the choices, and the result of it all comes down to a simple decision: Starbucks vs. Dunkin’.
Many people like Starbucks or Dunkin’, and sometimes even both, for morning drinks, especially getting ready for a long day at school. Even though people may like these drinks to start their morning off, sometimes their daily routine limits them from making time to take a quick stop.
Some students and teachers do have time to get either Starbucks or Dunkin’. For example, Zach Schneider, a 10th-grade student from Northern Valley Demarest, was asked if he had time to pick up Dunkin’ or Starbucks in the morning.
“No, I don’t think so because school starts very early and I won’t have time,” Schneider said.
Students, like Sia Sausa, may find it hard to adapt to their new routines within their morning schedule. Getting Starbucks or Dunkin could be a struggle with students’ and teachers’ wake-up and arrival times. These times affect whether a student is getting a morning drink or not.
“I usually wake up at 6:45 AM every morning…I usually arrive at 7:30 or 7:35. I would have time to get both in the morning, but my brother just doesn’t want to drive me. If my brother drove me, I would have time to, and I would probably get it on Mondays and Fridays to stay healthy and not get it too often,” Sausa said.
On the other hand, some students and teachers don’t have time to stop and get morning drinks. Michelle Szukics, a Spanish teacher at Northern Valley Highschool says she wakes up at 6:45 AM and arrives at school around 7:35 AM. Szukics was asked the question of whether or not she had time in the morning to grab a drink.
“No, because my child takes forever, but I would go to Dunkin in the morning if she gets in the car before 7:15,” Szukics said.

Students and teachers usually get drinks in the morning to start the day off strong. Many see having a drink in the morning to be beneficial. Szukics claims she needs coffee.
“To keep me awake and energized for the day. I need caffeine,” Szukics said.
Depending on the time of day, some students’ and teachers’ orders change. For example, Szukics says that even though she does like coffee, the type of coffee depends on the time of day.
“Yes, I like hot coffee in the morning and iced coffee in the afternoon. The weather also affects it, so now I am gearing towards more hot coffee than iced,” Szukics said.
So, how does this affect whether Starbucks or Dunkin’ is a better option for students and teachers in the morning?
“I would pick something that would wake me up in the morning instead of being tasty, so I would get an iced tea or a refresher,” Sausa said.
People will usually lean towards getting their favorite drink from their favorite store. The type of drink tends to affect where it is bought from. All of this information leads to students’ and teachers’ own preferences and thoughts on which is better in the morning.
“I think Starbucks tastes better in the morning because it’s more of a sweet flavor instead of a bland iced tea,” said Sausa.
While some people prefer Starbucks, others prefer Dunkin’ in the morning.
“Dunkin tastes better in the morning because the flavor is more refreshing,” Schneider said.
