As artists continue to drop new singles and albums, fans are rushing to streaming platforms to listen and critique the newest sounds shaping today’s music.
With new songs being released constantly, music fans are always waiting for new trending songs, sounds, and artists through social media. Platforms like TikTok and Instagram have changed the lifestyle for listeners so they can find their own sensible music taste. While a lot of listeners enjoy fun and fast paced music, some believe it has changed the quality and meaning of music styles. Students at NVD came together to share their opinions on the new music releases in the music industry.
Charlotte Besnoy, a freshman at NVD has been keeping up with the new album releases throughout the school year.
“Oh my God I love Noah Kahan’s new album, and I have been listening to all of the songs on his newest album. They are all so good,” Besnoy said.

Ways of finding out new music and albums are being released vary, and one popular way of discovering the songs of the week are social media. TikTok and Instagram have a strong impact on song trends and what songs flop in today’s music industry.
“I find out about new music releases from primarily Instagram or TikTok,” Bensoy continued.
While major social media apps help songs catapult to the top of the charts, many feel like maybe the songs all over TikTok are becoming “too excessive.” New songs jumping around the different sides of the app can take a toll on how the music created by the artist is perceived. A sophomore at NVD, Teo Sugarman, shares his feelings on new music taking over TikTok.
“I think today’s music is a lot more TikTok-a-fied, and the songs are shorter and they’re only there to get clips on TikTok,” Sugarman said.
Demi Yarkon is a sophomore at NVD and has similar opinions.
“I think that TikTok has a lot of power with how fast new songs become popular. I feel like lots of songs start to trend from TikTok and other social media platforms too,” Yarkon said.
Newly released songs aren’t just used as background music for social media, many artists are also creating tracks with deep meaning and slow yet catchy melodies.
“I love the song Drop Dead by Olivia Rodrigo because I think it is really emotional and great and different. Yeah, the songs released today are also more personal and confidential like Olivia Rodrigo’s songs,” Sugarman said.

However, some people don’t enjoy the soft melodies that some artists are starting to release.
“What makes me usually dislike a song right away is probably if it’s too slow at the beginning or just a really sad song, which I feel about some of Noah Kahan’s songs actually,” Bensoy said.
In today’s society, it can be hard for artists to gain recognition with new songs and album releases. Younger audiences often look for music that can be relatable, have catchy tunes, and have a modern style compared to older styles of music. From this, many artists try to create unique songs while still matching the current trends and popular sounds to attract listeners today.
“I think that artists releasing new music need to appeal to younger generations in order to get attention from them and succeed during this era,” Yarkon said.
Adding on, many young listeners quickly judge whether a song feels authentic or overly produced, which can have an effect on how successful the song becomes.
“Yeah, sometimes I feel like songs are too cheesy or I feel like they could try and sound better than they actually are when released,” Yarkon continued.
NVD students are confident that social media has changed the way music becomes so popular today. Apps like TikTok and Instagram help artists gain attention rapidly, while also influencing style and the quality of the music. No matter the opinions, students can agree that social media plays a huge role shaping society today.
“I feel like the TikTok-fication of songs are only there for TikTok, they don’t even care about a good song, only to get a trend on TikTok, which I think is valid,” Sugarman said.
