People of all ages are heading to movie theaters to watch “Wicked: For Good” and enjoy some Wickified popcorn. After much anticipation, part two of “Wicked” was released in theaters on November 21, 2025, exactly a year after the first movie came out. But did the sequel live up to expectations? To find out, we asked NVD students who have seen both movies to share their honest opinions on the films.
Junior Remi Actman went to see both films with her family, a new tradition they now share thanks to the “Wicked” movies. Along with this additional family time the movie allowed for, Actman appreciates the great amount of detail encapsulated in both films.
“I think it was a good idea to split the show into two movies because it was nice to see everything so well developed and detailed. It was good that they didn’t have to rush anything,” Actman said.
Not only did viewers appreciate that the show was split into two movies, the publishers benefited greatly from this as well. Senior Liam Sibirsky understands the financial gain from releasing the movie in two parts.
“I mean honestly, it’s a great way to make more money. The people that go see the first part are obviously going to want to see the second part. But, I feel like it might drag the story to unnecessary lengths,” Sibirsky said.
While the movies are long, the first one running for 2 hours and 40 minutes and the second being just a little bit shorter, people are still obsessed with the “Wicked” series, particularly the music.
Sophomore Agam Sibirsky is a super fan, having seen the Broadway version of “Wicked”, along with both movies. Both of her favorite songs can be found in the second movie.
“My favorite songs are definitely ‘No Good Deed’ and ‘Wonderful’ from part two,” Sibirsky said.
While the songs in part two are catchy, most fans believe that the music was better in the first movie. Junior Addision Rowan agrees with this general consensus.
“My favorite song is from the first movie called ‘Dancing Through Life’,” Rowan said.
Actman agrees, arguing that overall, the first movie was better than the second.
“I liked the first movie better because it is fun to see how the story starts and it has better songs. My favorite song is ‘What is This Feeling’, from the first movie,” she said.
Sibirsky shares a different opinion on her favorite of the two.
“I was definitely more excited to see the second because I heard that they changed things from the original musical so I was intrigued to see where they were taking it. It was definitely better than I thought it would be because I didn’t like the first one as much. The second one was definitely my favorite. I feel like it was more emotional, which made it more entertaining,” Sibirsky said.
While Rowan was more excited for the first movie to come out, there were certain parts of “Wicked: For Good” that stood out to her.
“My favorite part of the second movie was when Galinda took over and said goodbye to the Wizard and Madame Morrible because I don’t like those characters,” Rowan said.
Actman’s favorite moment from the series also lands in the second movie.
“I liked seeing all the characters transform into the Wizard of Oz characters. It did surprise me though that we did not get to see Dorthoy’s face,” Actman said.
While NVD students may have different opinions about which “Wicked” movie was better, they can all agree that both are incredible cinematic productions.
“I loved the first “Wicked” movie and the second one definitely lived up to my expectations!” Actman said.
