Easter is the holiday where Christians celebrate the end of Lent. They get together with their family and friends, make memories, and take part in annual traditions. They sit at dinner tables, eat, and celebrate together.
Nora Cowell, a senior at NVD, describes why Easter is a fun holiday to celebrate with her family. With Cowell’s family, she describes what a typical Easter celebration looks like, especially her favorite traditions.
“My favorite tradition for Easter is getting to see all my cousins and dying Easter eggs with my family,” Cowell said.
For most families, coloring eggs, hiding eggs or hunting them, or making Easter baskets for younger family members is a tradition for them. Each year, they make more memories. Whether it’s the actual day of Easter or the days leading up to it, it’s where most memories are made.

Emily Herger, a senior at NVD, loves to make memories and celebrate Easter with her family. Out of all the memories Herger has made since she was little, including making Easter baskets and egg hunts, this one in particular was her favorite.
“We just do a really small egg hunt for the memories but not the typical larger ones one would think of. My favorite memory is when my parents set up the egg hunt, but rather it was a scavenger hunt and it ended with a giant pile of my favorite candy,” Herger said.
On the other hand, Cowell has a similar memory from egg hunts she did with her family.
“I still do egg hunts every year with my younger cousins, and my favorite memory is trading the candy we get afterwards,” Cowell said.
Families on Easter have different food at their dinner tables, different recipes, and different traditions.
Helen Diggle, a senior at NVD, shares what her family eats for dinner on Easter Sunday.
“We typically have bread and food that people gave up for Lent since it is a way for them to celebrate,” Diggle said.
On the other hand, Herger’s family enjoys a variety of food with their family members on Easter Sunday.
“There’s a large range of items at the dinner table. Of course we have ham, mac and cheese, homemade perogies, and sour cream cucumber salad. We also will have Italian subs and sandwiches and other things different family members enjoy,” Herger said.
Cowell’s tradition she enjoys the most is seeing her family.
“I usually celebrate with my aunts, uncles, and cousins, which is around 15 people,” Cowell said.
Diggle tells us why she enjoys Easter so much, even though the holiday isn’t her top pick.
“It is one of my favorites, but not my top. I enjoy Easter a lot since I get to spend time with my family.”
