If you’ve ever paid attention to the school walls while walking around, you may have noticed some of the gorgeous murals down in the H hallways. These works were all painted by past students, all hoping to make the school a brighter place. Thanks to three NVD sophomores- Audrey Sneed, Radhika Srinivasan, and Evelyn Park- a new opportunity has shown up for current students to help leave their mark on the school as well!
Albert: Could you explain the club?
Srinivasan: “[Hands-On] is basically a club meant to decorate the school and make it feel like a better place. We wanted it to be something in between stage crew and art club, something that took stuff from both of those and we were just walking around and we saw NVD painters come up on the screen, and we were like, ‘wait, we can just make this a club?’”
Sneed: “It’s like a hands-on version of the NBC, which is the Norseman Beautification Committee. They have ideas, we execute them.”
Albert: How did you guys get the idea for the club?
Park: “We were talking about what we wanted to paint for NBC because he [Mr. Johnson] said that we could paint something, then we were like, ‘oh, might as well just get more people.’”
Srinivasan: “NBC came up with ideas, but they didn’t have the time to actually do the ideas. So we’re gonna take their ideas and then also ideas from everybody at our club.”
Albert: What are some goals you have for this year?
Sneed: “Right now we want to get leadership going. We want to start dividing into groups and dividing the school up, and just start brainstorming. “
Srinivasan: “Get mockups and stuff. And then when the board approves this as an official club, start fundraising.”
Albert: Who do you think is the target audience for your club?
Sneed: “People who are passionate about art and who want to leave an impact on the school. And if you guys want a cool group of people, a cool community to be a part of, this is going to be a really cool group.”
Srinivasan: “If anybody likes art and painting, there’s gonna be a lot of that.”
Albert: Any additional information you want the readers to know about?
Park: “Our next meeting will probably be next month. Also, there really is no limit to this, the school is really big. You can always paint over murals and stuff like that.
Srinivasan: “Yeah, it could be a cool new experience because it’s not a regular canvas, it’s a massive amount of space that you can fill up with whatever you want.”
Sneed: “Look around. We’re painting all of it.”
