Here at Northern Valley Demarest, there are twelve days straight of the Holiday break this year. Beginning on the night of Wednesday, Dec. 23 and lasting until Sunday, Jan. 4 the song we all love to hear every Holiday season has officially come to life. Instead of partridges and turtle doves, however, our newsroom has ski trips, safari adventures, jelly donut potlucks, hiking volcanoes, and sleeping in bed at home. With a 12 day break and 12 different holiday plans from our editors, what exactly is the northern star doing during this time off?
On the first day of break co-editor-and-chief Lia Levy will be hosting a Hanukkah party with a (very fitting) jelly donut extravaganza.
On the second day of break, co-editor and chief Mia Harrison will be in San Francisco with her cousins only to go to Iceland a couple of days later.
On the third day of break Senior Managing Editor Anna Schwartz will be skiing with her cousins in snowy Vermont.
On the fourth day of break Junior Managing Editor Sophie Halper will be in Patagonia, Argentina to explore a landscape she never thought she would experience.
On the fifth day of break, News Editor Evelyn Ricci will be skiing down the slopes in Beaver Creek, Colorado.
On the sixth day of break, Opinion Editor Jamison Goldberg will be staying in Connecticut to be with family for the holidays.
On the seventh day of break Features Editor Amit Weigal will be on a safari in Tanzania, Africa, and venturing along the coast of Zanzibar.
On the eighth day of break Features Editor Vivian Griffin will be in South Carolina visiting colleges she’s interested in.
On the ninth day of break Lifestyle Editor Lora Apostolva and Arts Editor Victoria Albert will be doing a Stranger Things marathon and holiday crafts together.
On the tenth day of break Sports Editor Jack Kim will be sleeping and playing minecraft after hosting his entire family for Christmas.
On the eleventh day of break Photo/Design Editor Nellie Brenner will be hiking and sightseeing in Guatemala.
On the twelfth day of break PR/Marketing Editor Fiana Usvetov will be driving to her best friend’s Rhode Island home to soak in the holidays.
With these days to ourselves, take time to do the little things that make you happiest, and surround yourself with the people that lift you up. These “12 Days of Christmas Break” remind us that every person brings their own traditions, chaos and hopes into this season, and that when we return in January we’ll be ready to take on a new year of our lives.
