As the weather gets colder here at NVD, it seems as though every single student is sick.
As students walk through the halls the background noises of coughs and sniffles and sneezes are hard to miss. When fall rolls around and it gets colder outside, it is normal for people to get a little cold from the change in weather. However, this cold looks like it has spread throughout the school and no one can get away from the NVD sickness.
A sophomore here at NVD, Deana Finklestein, has been surrounded by this outbreak.
“Being on the volleyball team, I feel like a new person gets sick every day and no one can catch a break because we have to be around each other every day,” Finklestein said.
Having to come to school and be surrounded by sick students makes it very difficult for them to stay healthy, especially if they are on sports teams that require being very close to their teammates.
A senior at NVD, Chloe Hoehn, has experienced the “Norsemen sickness.”
“There were a couple of people I knew that said they weren’t feeling well, and then maybe a week later I started feeling sick. I feel like it’s not really a sickness that makes people stay home, which makes it so much easier to travel through the school cause people aren’t staying home to get better,” Hoehn said.
Students are trying to get healthy and better to help end this school-wide issue.
“I think sometimes it would be better for students to just stay home for a day to really get better so they won’t give the sickness to other people,” Hoehn said.
Being on a sports team also makes it even harder for students to get healthy.
“Being on a team is hard with the sickness, but I think making sure you wash your hands and getting good sleep while also taking stuff to help you stay healthy is most important,” Finklestein said.
