Each year, Coachella draws thousands of music lovers, fashion icons, and influencers to California for one of the most anticipated music festivals in the world. This year’s Coachella was no different, bringing an exciting and surprising lineup of performances and celebrity moments. Coachella took place on the weekends of April 12-14 and April 19-21 this year.
Although none of NVD’s students attended in person, they still followed the performances online and on social media.
Sophomore Yuval Marcovitz said, “It was very entertaining, and I enjoyed watching the variety of performances.”
Others agree that the performance was memorable, including sophomore Layla Jamal.
“This was another great year of Coachella performances,” Jamal said.
Other students emphasized their excitement for their favorite artists bringing out surprise guests.
Sophomore Allie Arefiev said, “Although I didn’t get to go, I loved Charli XCX, and she brought out Troye Sivan, who is my favorite artist. Together, they performed very well and kept me entertained.”
Singer Charli XCX seemed to be a highlight for many.
“It was amusing yet worrying seeing Troye Sivan doing a backflip and falling when brought out by Charlie XCX,” Marcovitz said.
Singer Sabrina Carpenter, a newer artist, performed on the main stage at this year’s Coachella, showing how her career has been growing rapidly and successfully. Knowing this, students expressed how they felt she performed as a popular artist.
“I liked Sabrina Carpenter’s performance the best, and I was really impressed by the creativity and style of her outfit,” Jamal said.
While many performances were hits, some viewers were let down and even disappointed overall.
Marcovitz said, “Megan Thee Stallion underperformed in my opinion. She was low-energy and not as entertaining as usual,” while Arefiev said, “Benson Boone performed very well but went in a different direction with his genre, which I did not like.”
Singer Lady Gaga, who was one of the main performers also sparked mixed feelings, although having years of experience as an artist.
“Gaga’s performance was interesting, but the theme surprised me. It is definitely not my style,” Arefiev said.
Coachella uses their platform to strive for diversity and they do this by inviting international artists to perform each year.
“I think it’s really cool to see people of different styles and diversities,” Marcovitz said.
Students agreed that diversity is something that they want to see at Coachella.
“I like seeing more diversity, I feel like it is crucial in today’s society,” Jamal said.
Another big part of Coachella is fashion, where people wear a different variety of outfits based on the vibe of the artist lineup. This year some popular outfit themes were cowboy, grunge, and bohemian.
“I liked James Charles’ outfit because it was very unique and his makeup added to the overall look,” Marcovitz said.
While artist James Charles wore a simple outfit and emphasized his makeup skills, Sabrina Carpenter decided to take a different approach, wearing an extravagant outfit with little makeup.
“Sabrina Carpenter is one of my favorite artists of all time and her outfits are always amazing in my opinion, especially at this year’s Coachella–although I feel like it was too warm in California for her to be leather wearing a jacket,” sophomore Chelsea Zirin said.
Sophomore Madison Stott also had some thoughts about celebrity’s Coachella outfits.
“Alix Earle wore a really cute black leather outfit and I thought it did better than the rest of the influencers who attended,” she said.
Overall, each year Coachella brings a different vibe, setlist, and unique outfits. The 2025 Coachella festival featured a wide range of performances and styles that sparked praise and interest, as heard from NVD students. The festival’s uniqueness and popularity across the world is shown through the way that the audience and performers choose to express themselves.
Overall the festival was well received. “It was really good and I liked watching the performances,” Marcovitz said.
