Many of the NVD students discuss how March is the most wonderful (and chaotic) time of the year, especially for those college basketball fans! March Madness is an annual NCAA college basketball tournament throughout the month of March. This tournament dictates the national champions.
Selection Sunday, a day when the 68-team fields for the 2025 NCAA Division I men’s and women’s tournaments were finally revealed, was March 16 this year, and many people gathered around to hear the matchups. Anything can happen. This day marks the true beginning of March Madness, where 68 teams compete for a national championship.
Senior Max Platin discussed his favorite parts of March Madness.
“The format of March Madness interested me. So many teams play in it which leads to many different opportunities for the players. We also get to see “under the radar” teams go far in the tournament,” Platin said.
Platin discussed how many different teams are able to show off their basketball skills and abilities during the March Madness tournaments. Many schools are able to show off their school spirit and show off the hard work and dedication the players have been putting into their basketball career. Not only is this a sporting event but it becomes a social event as well.
“My friends and I usually hang out and watch the games and make bets on who will win,” Platin said.
Although March Madness typically revolves around watching sports, it is also a social event which gets people to hang out on Sundays, eat their favorite foods and talk about who they want to win this tournament.
Platin and his friends gather around and watch the games through the entirety of March. “I watch with a group of my friends and hope for the chance to get a perfect bracket and win!” Platin said.
Senior Jackson Dickstein also watches March Madness with his friends and family. He, like many students, discussed how they feel that March Madness is an amazing time for family members to bond, spend time together and pick their brackets.
“I love watching March Madness and betting on the winner with my dad. We always have so much fun it’s something I look forward to,” Dickstein said.
Although watching March Madness is exciting to Dickstein, his favorite part of the tournament is being able to watch it whenever he wants and wherever he wants.
“March Madness is interesting to me because sometimes our teachers play the games on the screen while we do work. This makes school more exciting,” Dickstein said.
The rollercoaster of March Madness every year allows people to be kept on their toes throughout the ‘madness’ of March.
If students have learned anything from the past it is that March Madness usually never goes as expected. Get ready for the heartbreaking losses, amazing victories and at least one game that will make you jump out of your seat.
