As the weather warms up, students at NVD are preparing for spring and summer while still juggling their roles as high schoolers. Whether they are student athletes gearing up for the season or preparing for end-of-year exams, all students face unique stresses.
Student athletes explain the challenges they face throughout the season.
Sophomore Lauren Bernardez said, “The most challenging part is having to deal with the difference in weather because sometimes it’s really nice and other times we have to practice indoors because of the cold. It is also allergy season which makes it significantly harder for me to play,”
Students with more academic focus describe how they manage their study schedules for upcoming AP Exams and the SATs.
Sophomore Sarah Andriescu discusses how she deals with her study habits throughout the year. “When I come home from school I schedule my work and make sure I get an efficient amount of practice done for AP exams and SAT. I also utilize my Saturdays for the SAT and Sundays for my AP Exam studying,” Andriescu said.
All different grades are dealing with their own stress. The juniors are feeling the stress of their first prom season, especially when it comes to finding the perfect dress and accessories.
Junior, Liana Vaisman explains how she is planning for prom. “It has been very stressful to put together my outfit, especially finding a dress and heels. I still feel very prepared since I got my nails and hair done in time and my outfit ended up working together perfectly,” junior Liana Vaisman said.
While many students are overwhelmed with high school responsibilities, some are already dreaming of the warm weather and upcoming summer break.
“It is extremely difficult to focus while the weather is getting warmer because of how excited I am for the summer break. I have also worked very hard during this school year, which makes me excited to finally have some time to relax,” Jamie Shu said.
Students mention that their favorite part of spring is the anticipation for their summer plans.
“My favorite part of the spring season is that my summer plans are right around the corner which makes me overwhelmed with joy,” Morgan Dearing said.
Other students, balancing part-time jobs with school, discuss how their schedules shift in the spring. For example, sophomore Zula Branecky discusses how she adjusts her schedule.
“I like to dedicate time for just school work and time to lock in before and after my shifts, but with spring starting I have to double up on shifts. It will be very difficult to make sure my shifts are balanced out and not too heavy on me,” Branecky said.
Overall, the spring season might be the most stressful for some, but the best season for others. Regardless, students know their hard work will pay off in the end.
“Doing well on tests and exams is very rewarding for me, and it also makes my parents proud so that keeps me motivated, as well as getting accepted to a good college and knowing the work I am doing now will pay off in the future,” Andriescu said.
