With the election results in and voting over, Donald Trump will be the new President of the United States, with Trump’s 50% of electoral votes winning over Harris’s 48.3% of votes (www.nytimes.com). There will be new policies implemented, as well as a different course of action on the U.S’s foreign involvement and international economy.
Everyone over eighteen who is a citizen is eligible to vote. However, while most students don’t have that opportunity, many still hold opinions over the political stance of the United States.
Some students felt distraught by the results, responding negatively about when they first saw the results.
“I was very upset and shocked,” Student 1 said. With Student 4 sharing similar emotions. “Surprised, angry,” Student 4 stated in response to the same question.
On the other hand some students felt the complete opposite. “I was not surprised. It seemed like there were mostly Trump supporters on things like TikTok,” Student 2 said.
“At first I was surprised but I realized that more people do support Trump and it made sense he won,” Student 3 said.
Student 1 explained why they struggled with election results.
“I disagree with the election results because I heard that over 40 of the democratic voting locations had been sent fake bomb threats on the day of the election, which ended up all being tracked back to Russia,” Student 1 said. There have been claims made by the FBI regarding this, however there was no mention of specifically forty and over voting locations.
However, Student 2 has a different view on the results.
“I have a neutral feeling. I am not very into the election but I think both candidates were bad,” Student 3 said.
In turn, Student 4 justifies their bias against Trump with certain rights they are concerned about.
“I think it’s important for women to have their rights and no MAN should say otherwise and people about of the LQBTQ+ should feel safe in our country,” Student 4 said.
Student 4 also raised the topic about the transgender communities’ concern with their rights because of “Trump’s attempts to reverse transgender care and treatments.”
So what do the results of the election have in store for America? Well to answer that question students 1,2,3, and 4 have given their predictions and conclusions.
One is “Abortion laws,” Student 4 said.
This entails a revote of abortion bans and restriction by state, letting the states decide if they want to implement any abortion bans and restrictions.
“I expect President Trump to put in a law for abortion, preventing women from getting one because he thinks abortion is murder,” Student 1 said as a reason why Trump may decide to support abortion laws.
Last term citizens claimed Trump created and supported policies and bills that may have harmed the environment.
“Trump does not seem like the type to care about things like the environment, which would impact the animals and me because I love animals,” Student 2 said.
Another policy is Project 2025, mentioned by Students 1 and 3. Project 2025, also named the Heritage Project Initiative is a movement, also considered a “blueprint” for a more conservative presidency, that would “include a sweeping overhaul of the executive branch” (www.cbsnews.com).
“While Trump has stated he is not a part of it and hasn’t even read it, over half his former cabinet members contributed to the plan,” Student 1 said.
Though Trump has replied on social media he isn’t aware of who’s behind it, Student 1 said that news outlets such as CNN have uncovered that Trump has known and knows who it is contributing to Project 2025.
“I hope that Congress and the House do not go through with Project 2025 because I feel like it is bad for the country,” Student 3 said in regards to preventing the project.
