October 15, 2024 was the first time “Victoria’s Secret” held its infamous runway show since 2018.
This event “broke” the internet because many people reminisced on the 2000’s nostalgia. Everyone grabbed their popcorn and judgemental opinions.
“Victoria’s Secret” had Adriana Lima, Kate Moss, Candace Swanepoel, Taylor Hill, Tyra Banks, the Hadid sisters, and many more famous iconic models walking on the runway.
Although this show was revamped since their previous years, senior Katerina Dokas and others had strong opinions about the production.
“I was very disappointed and underwhelmed. The show was not organized and they did not have bombshell blowouts like the old shows,” Katerina said.
Even though some viewers feel let down, some feel they presented a great show considering what they had to work with. The majority of “Victoria’s Secret’s” budget had to be paid to the well-known models so that they could come back and perform. Since they have not released a show in years, they just could not afford to go full out.
The event emphasized diversity and inclusion which they failed to do in previous years. But then this raises the question: since they are supposed to be portrayed as angels, should they have an attainable appearance to the rest of society?
Senior Olivia Herz has the answer to this.
“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and there is no one standard of beauty. But I do believe that these models should not just look like someone you can just come across on the street. They are supposed to be perceived [as] angelic,” Herz said.
The return of this fashion show had a glamorous atmosphere filled with top high fashion models. Fashion and style evolve and we can’t live in one time period forever.
This was just the beginning of a comeback! The “Victoria’s Secret” runway show definitely has more in store for viewers.
