This season, the Norsemen football team has performed exceptionally well, ending the regular season undefeated with seven wins and no losses. For the first time in many years, the team is off to the playoffs where they will hopefully make it to the championship game.
This season has boosted school spirit, as students are excited to go to the games, cheer on the team, and watch them win.
Linemen and senior, Peter Kurys explains why he feels the team is performing so well this season in comparison to past years.
“The main difference between this year and last year is how much better the team is performing. Last year, we struggled with a lack of senior leadership and varsity experience, which made it hard to come together as a team. This year, we are a unified unit on the field,” Kurys said.
Kurys also details how the team feels about the upcoming playoffs, and how the team has been preparing.
“We’re all excited for the upcoming playoffs, especially since it’s been 32 years since we last won a trophy. The team is going to continue preparing the same way we have been all season. We’re not going to let our success change how we approach practice,” Kurys said.
The success of the football team was a pleasant surprise to most students and faculty this year. The undefeated season helped boost school spirit, as students are excited to watch the team succeed.
Sophomore Panayiotis Amitsis details his experience this season, and compares it to his freshman year.
“I was really surprised at how I performed this season as it was much better than I thought it would have been. This is quite different from that of my freshmen season where I only got a couple of plays each game so I wasn’t really able to show what I could do,” Amitsis said.
The team has faced challenges such as injuries and other setbacks, but the Norsemen were able to bounce back from these challenges, and perform this season.
Amitsis highlights the effect these setbacks have on the bond of the team.
“I feel as though the team as a whole has grown since last season. With many challenges faced in the off-season, like injuries and staff changes, our team worked through it which, in turn, grew the bond that we had as well as the drive to win,” Amitsis said.
Support, either by classmates or family, can motivate the team to perform better. Having a supportive student section that is lively and enthusiastic can change the overall atmosphere of the game.
Junior Drew Greenberg explains how the Norsemen Nation student section impacts his performance during games.
“The student section/crowd encourages me knowing I have my friends and family cheering me on, which makes me more motivated knowing people are watching me,” Greenberg said.
The football team worked very hard this season and had the most successful season in years. This success positively impacts the team as it helps boost morale. Hopefully, these attitudes can continue to seasons in the future.
Greenberg describes the impact of the successful season on the team.
“It keeps the confidence and morale high. It motivates the team knowing we worked so hard to get to this championship game,” Greenberg said.
