Friday night football is the perfect excuse to go out with friends. Kicking off the school year with fun weekend nights is a great way to remember the fall. Northern Valley Demarest may have dropped a league in football, but after the past four wins, there’s no denying there can be more. The student section has been ecstatic with the football team finally pushing through the yard lines.
To plan the next best outfit for upcoming football games check out the schedule in this article. The football season will only last for the next few weeks of the school year, so don’t miss out on this perfect way to be with peers and start off the weekend!
“The last two seasons we started off 1-1 and 1-0 and tailed off from there. This group is focused on getting the job done and going 1-0 every day,” Coach Rob Petrella said.
So far the school has used the themes White Out, Blue Out, USA Out, Black Out and pajama party during the football games.
“I love going to the football games to be with my friends and show school spirit. I also love dressing up for each theme every week,” senior Sophie Conen said.
There is no denying the amount of spirit this year’s seniors have been showing at recent football games. It’s evident that the seniors this year love showing up with their peers to support their school’s team and watch the winning score.
“I think the student section has gotten a lot more lively since last year. Class of 2025 does the best,” senior Riley Houck said.
Last year’s seniors stopped attending the football games when the football team kept losing. This year everyone has been decked out every Friday night in theme. Even the cheerleaders have been performing new routines.
“I like how we control the chants and everything. It is fun to be a part of. I also like that we have seating by grade order so that I am able to spend time with all my friends,” senior Noah Chang said.
After the Saturday football game themed “pajama party,” there will be a game away in Fair Lawn on October 10, 2024. That game’s theme will be “neon out.” After that is only one more football game left in the schedule which is a home game against Fort Lee. That game’s theme will be “pink out.”
For last year’s “pink out” theme, students purchased a pink Northern Valley Demarest shirt as a fundraiser for the school. Students should wear last year’s shirt or any pink outfit for this last game.
“I love the fact we all hang out and experience the wins together. It’s a fun experience I look forward to every Friday and I can’t wait to do it for the next four years,” freshman Paige Lanzano said about the football games.
The morale during these Friday night games attracts so many students and family to come and watch. Four wins and one month later, the boys football team is definitely embracing that mindset.
“This team has one goal and it’s been to play for each other, we don’t worry about the individual, it’s all about us and we. It’s been great to see us embrace that mindset,” Coach Petrella said.
