As school begins again, and with the weather starting to get colder, some students are ready to participate in fun fall trends and traditions, where others want to stretch summer as long as they can.
Some students believe fall begins when the school year starts, and want to begin embracing fall aesthetics.
Junior Zola Ray expresses her feelings about if it is okay to start celebrating fall in the beginning of September.
“I personally do not feel like this is too early. I’m always very eager to get into the fall vibe and aesthetic. I think once school starts, it’s ok to finally embrace fall because mornings are colder and summer is officially over,” Ray said.
With the autumn months approaching, popular restaurants and food stores such as Starbucks and Trader Joe’s have released their limited edition fall menus. On August 22nd Starbucks released their famous fall drinks, and it has raised concerns if society is jumping into fall traditions too early, and not fully appreciating summer.
Similarly, Trader Joe’s released their fall inspired foods such as pumpkin ice cream and butternut squash mac & cheese on September 5th.
These fall menus are especially popular as they are only available for a short period of time. With the release of these menus, it helps people get into the fall spirit and shift gears from summer to fall.
Junior Charlotte Rubin expresses how she feels about these limited edition fall menus, and how it gets her excited for fall.
“I don’t mind celebrating fall early at all because I love pumpkin spice and Trader Joe’s butternut squash mac and cheese,” Rubin said.
Another important aspect of fall is Halloween. Recently, there has been a critical debate on what the appropriate time to start planning or buying Halloween costumes is. Some students begin ordering and planning their costumes once school starts, and others spend more time reminiscing on the summer months than thinking about Halloween.
Ray expresses where she stands in this debate.
“I have 100% started thinking about my Halloween costumes. I started planning my Halloween costume even before school started! It’s a hot topic between everyone around me and all of my friends are already planning for the weekend of Halloween and what costumes we will see this year,” Ray said.
Although these certain aspects of fall are exciting to most, people still feel nostalgia for the summer months, and are going to miss the freedoms and stress-free environment of the summer.
Junior Alexa Chodos explains how although she is excited for fall activities, she will miss the warmth of summer.
“I love taking walks with all of the leaves or going apple picking, but I am going to miss being tan and having the sun be out for longer periods of time,” Chodos said.
