Football season for the Norsemen has begun, and their first game of the season took place at NVD against Bergen Tech on September 6th. The Norsemen football team’s last year was not as successful in their previous league, however, after switching leagues, they are excited to finally start their season off strong and prove themselves from the previous season.
They did this by starting off their first game with a big win against Bergen Tech with a final score of 40-0. NVD’s tradition is to begin the first football game as a “white out” where all of the students show up wearing white.
The Norsemen football team’s move to a different league, has put them on an even level playing field and brought them more success. Senior Noah Sosa, sophomore DJ Joseph, junior Joseph Yun, and junior Reed Kauderer each scored a touchdown at the game.
Senior Marco DeCroce said, “I was super pumped up, having a home opener win like that really sets a huge standard for my team and I. It was great having a huge student section and fan base there supporting the team, it really meant a lot to us. It was a great win but we know we can do more in this league.”
The 2025 seniors were excited to finally lead the student section, chants were yelled throughout the student section cheering on the football players. The student section did not disappoint as they established a pumped-up mood.
Senior Peter Kurys said, “The student section really set the tone for the game and for the rest of the season. They were a huge part of that win.”
The football team winning their first game has exceeded the expectations from the past of NVD football. As the team progresses their success they become more passionate about their team’s ability.
Senior Marco DeCroce said, “This win set some big expectations for us, helping us gain confidence knowing now what we can do on the field. We know how good of a team we are and know what we can do this season. Important for us to keep a positive attitude and not look down on any of our opponents no matter what league we are in.”
Norsemen football has really set the tone of their season with their victory. The season continued with Tenafly on Friday where they also successfully took the win, 41-14. Students are excited to see their football team continue to succeed and follow them throughout their season.
