Ah, holiday season: a time of family, warmth, and…drama. As students and teachers are reeling back from the holidays, many have returned with both presents and tales, some of which center around the ever-present mainstay of every holiday gathering, drama. With stories as innocent as a fondue mishap, to a full-blown argument over a damaged Louis Vuitton handbag, what really happened over the holidays?
While irksome to many, the fact that such dramatics occur over the holidays is in truth an unavoidable factuality. In family gatherings, with people spanning several generations meeting in a single location, it isn’t surprising that some may clash heads over dissent on a certain issue, as well as having general unease due to the lack of time spent with one another over the entire year.
A similar occurrence can be said with friend gatherings; friends who had not seen each other for a long period of time may attend such gatherings to bring certain grievances to light, or simply be uncomfortable with one another due to having little to speak about.
In the vein of generational dramatics, a certain student has come to light to speak of his story. Charlie Brennan, a current junior at NVD, shared a particularly humorous anecdote of his familial experience. On the night before Christmas, when his grandmother and mother joined forces together in the kitchen, a certain disagreement sprang over the issue of cheese fondue. Breannan recounted his story.
“Basically, on Christmas Eve, my mom was going to cook cheese fondue for dinner, but Grandma wanted to make lasagna. They kind of had a mini argument over that, with Grandma asking ‘Is fondue even a dinner?’ My mom got so mad at my Grandma, but then she just told her ‘MAKE THE LASAGNA.’ I was kind of disappointed, as I was secretly rooting for my mom to make cheese fondue,” Brennan said.
While family gatherings are sure to provide holiday antics, it isn’t only blood relations that were the source of amusing dissent. After visiting her friend Gali Reisbaum before Christmas, Macy Tewfik made a horrifying discovery. The NVD sophomore shared her memories of the fateful day.
“So, I visited Gali right before Christmas, and I realized that I couldn’t find my Louis Vuitton bag. Turns out her dog had ripped my bag apart while I was visiting her, and Gali, freaking out, had bought me a replacement. I yelled at her and we fought, but then to make up she bought me a Prada bag and some sunglasses. So, yeah, it all worked out,” Tewfik said.
The holiday seasons are always full of surprises, whether it be a familial drama situation or a fight between friends. But regardless of such nuisances, the students of NVD remain loyal to their kin, whether it be through the thick or thin.
